Argentine Air Force CH-47 7th Air Group (Request from DelPlataDesign)

The 7th Air Group concentrate all Air Force helicopter operations with the exception of the Andes mountains search and rescue unit which is assigned to the IV Air Brigade at Mendoza.

Unit peacetime responsibilities includes firefighting (Plan Nacional de Manejo del Fuego) and Antarctic support.

From 1980 the Argentine Air Force / Fuerza Aérea Argentina (FAA) VII Brigada Aerea operated three Boeing CH-47 Model 308 Chinook (CH-47C) helicopters: H-91, H-92, and H-93, in the transport, SAR and Antarctic support role. On November 30th, 1980 H-91 and H-92 set a record, becoming the first helicopters to make the journey from South America to Antarctica.
Unfortunately H-92 was lost in an accident due to engine failure in January 1982. The other two conducted transport operations during the Falklands War of 1982 (Islas Malvinas) - a heavy machine gun was fitted to the rear ramp during this period. Due to a parts embargo, they were grounded for a period in the 1980's but we're returned to operations in the 1990's and flew on until retired in 2002 to become museum pieces. H-91 (pictured) is today on display at the National Aviation Museum of Argentina at Morón Air Base in Buenos Aires.
