Inittially controlled by the allmighty Pan American, Panair do Brasil flew with 23 DC-3 (Mostly C-47s and C-53s from Pan American and Panagra). Panair is one of the few latin american airlines that actually overgrew the DC-3 capacity with the international flights and slowly phased out the machine until its abrupt political closure when only 1 DC-3 (PP-PED) was still among bigger birds in the fleet.
Here depicted is the PP-PCU in the classic Panair do Brasil livery. Originally Pan American NC79001, it was transfered to Panair in 1947 where it was nicknamed "Bandeirante Pedro Vaz de Barros" following the tradition (Panair´s Callsign was Bandeirante, also included in this model). It was sold then in 1958 to N.A.B.
PP-PCE was originally Pan American NC59794 until 1947, when she was christened "bandeirante Domingos Fernandes de Carvalho", in 1958 nshe was sold to NAB.
PP-PED was Panagra NC21718 until 1946, and in Pan Air she was named just "Bandeirante" and was handled to NAB also in 1958 but was returned to Panair in 1962 and was stored in Rio de Janeiro in modern collours, and after the political coup she was then passed on to Cruzeiro do Sul (as PP-CCR).
