Confusing or not? Flying around Colombia I noticed several airports with the same name - La Primavera (The Spring). We visit them all in tn this Bush Trip. We are on the border between the department of Vichada, and Casanare about 400 Km (250 miles) East North East of the Colombian capital Bogota.
Flowing through the area is the Meta River a major tributary of the Orinoco River. It lies in the Llanos (plains) of the Orinoco River basin.
The area has cattle ranches and dairy farms. In the Llanos, alongside ranching there is also some fishing and hunting. Roads in the area are poor with only just over a kilometer of paved highway in Vichada. Transport is therefore reliant on the horse, river and air, which explains why there are so many landing strips. I suspect each landing strip has it's own name but I haven't been able find them.
We use the Flight Design CTSL which can get into these small airfields. It has the minimum of navigation aids so watch your bearing. Use the on board GPS map and the stopwatch. Unfortunately we are attempting this flight in the rainy season so that adds a little more difficulty to the flight. To help I have allowed you to change weather should you wish. Don't forget your umbrella.
The trip has 10 legs but is only 142nm long. Some airfields are not well defined so you may have to land and taxi to find the leg end. Be careful, make sure there are no cattle on the runways!
