Shungnak (PAGH)
A small airport, located on the west bank of the Kobuk River. It was originally located 10 miles further upstream at Kobuk until 1920, where river erosion and flooding forced the village to relocate.
In this scenery I restored a bit of the great Kobuk river – to get a bit more, be sure to also check out my version of the close-by airfield
The Northwest Arctic Borough, the second largest borough in Alaska, covering 40,749 square miles (105,540 km2) of land and water. The region experiences a transitional climate, characterized by long, cold winters and cool summers. Temperatures range from -52 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit (-46 to 30 degrees Celsius).
The region is home to approx. 7715 people, many of these are totally dependent on transporting people and goods by air.
Hope you enjoy the airport.
Happy Flights.

It's got to be a hard life living in this area of the world during this time of the year, except for maybe a couple hours of very dim sunlight low on the horizon it's completely dark. Couple that with the frigid temperatures, high wind speeds and unpredictable weather, I can't even begin to grasp how difficult it must be for a pilot having to make emergency flights in and out of this region.
Keep up the great work!
