From 1926 until 1935 or 1936 the aiport for the German city of Gera was situated in the district of Tinz with the administration building (with restaurant) within the town perimeter of Langenberg which is now part of Gera. It was connected to the early Lufthansa routes and as such was part of the line Berlin - Leipzig - Gera - Plauen. As the Reichsautobahn was built during the 1930s the airport was closed and another one built in the district of Leumnitz which exists to this day as EDAJ. There seems to have been a workshop where gliders were produced but I could not find evidence of a third building or this was done in the hangar. A thin pencil square on an old map would speak for it but it being quite separated from the other buildings makes it again rather improbable.
On the area of the former airport there is today a conglomeration of large factories. I left the Autobahn in place but cleared the industrial area. Also the letters G E R A were marked with a light colored material on the ground (according to a photo of a model from that time which I found in the city archive).
This airport is part of a project to bring back some historical places. For some water fun check out my scenery "Blaue Linie" which consists of three seaplane ports in Altona, Magdeburg and Dresden which comprised a short lived route along the river Elbe from 1925 until 1926.
